I go to the UND Wellness Center on quite a regular basis, and each time I’m returning home after a workout, I drive past the same business called “Club Tan.” Here is what the outside of their establishment looks like from the road.

In case you didn’t notice, the girl on the sign isn’t wearing a top, nor does she have much clothing across her bottom. I always wonder what they mean by “get noticed,” when the first thing I notice is her lack of clothing, not her all over tan. Maybe something is wrong with me because I even noticed that half of her two piece swim suit is missing? I would dare say, however, that any person, male or female, who goes to the beach missing items of required clothing, would be noticed for their lack of attire, not for their superb coloring, no matter how golden brown they may be.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but the message I get from the sign is: “Go naked, get noticed!” It might not be the most revolutionary concept in advertising, but “sex sells” is as successful as any gimmick out there. Now if I could only figure out how tanning fits into all this…
