A Blessed Christmas

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me! While this old adage may help children deal with bullies, all of us know it’s not really true; words do hurt.

We all say things which, on occasion, hurt others. Sometimes we do it intentionally, but most of the time we aren’t even aware of what we’ve done. Sometimes we tell ourselves that we are hurting others for their own good. You know, “tough love;” telling them what they need to hear even if they aren’t going to like it.

I know firsthand the great power that words carry; they can hurt and tear down, but they can also heal and lift up. What I’m praying for on this Christmas day is that we all pause to think before we speak. May God grant us the wisdom and patience to look beyond the hurtful words of others and to only respond with love and understanding.

Merry Christmas!
